The client initially requested custom multicam camo tops but later opted for a full black design to match their updated aesthetic. They also prioritised a balance of comfort and performance to suit their increasingly warm operational environment.
ActiveCool designed black tops in two advanced fabric options to meet the client’s needs:
- Coolpass Fabric: Known for its durability and moisture-wicking properties, this fabric is ideal for demanding conditions, keeping wearers comfortable during extended use.
- 13% Spandex & 87% Nylon Blend: Lightweight and breathable, this blend incorporates in-built cooling and stretch, offering flexibility and comfort in high temperatures.
Fabric Comparison:
- Spandex & Nylon Blend: This fabric combines stretchability, air circulation, and moisture control, keeping wearers cool and comfortable in hot climates. Its flexibility enhances movement, and its cooling features make it a preferred choice in modern, warm environments.
- 100% Polyester: Durable but less breathable, polyester traps heat and lacks the stretch and cooling properties of the nylon blend, making it less suitable for high-temperature conditions.

The key challenge was matching the precise blue colour code specified by the Singapore Police Force, as even minor discrepancies could impact the professionalism and uniformity of their attire.
The client provided a fabric sample with the required shade, but replicating it posed challenges:
- Colour Variability: Small changes in dye formulation or application could cause noticeable differences.
- Lighting and Perception: The shade’s appearance varied under different lighting, complicating efforts to achieve consistency.
To address the challenge, ActiveCool employed a structured approach:
- Dye Testing: Three blue dye variations (A, B, and C) were created and tested under various lighting conditions to match the SPF’s sample.
- Advanced Technology: A specialised RGB scanning machine analysed the original sample and compared its values to the dyed variations for the best match.
- Iterative Refinement: Feedback from the scanner enabled precise dye adjustments, ensuring the final shade met the SPF’s requirements while minimising human error.
